Car: ACRISS
Calculate car emissions with the ACRISS methodology, which differentiates emissions by vehicle class, fuel or energy type and usage patterns such as distance and trip context.
ACRISS (Association of Car Rental Industry Systems Standards) is known for its rental car coding standards and, increasingly, for methodologies that address the environmental impact of car travel. The methodology recognises that a compact city car differs markedly from a large SUV. It estimates emissions from vehicle specifications, driving behaviour assumptions and maintenance practices, reflects the market shift toward EVs, HEVs and PHEVs, and is updated periodically to stay aligned with industry standards and technology advances.
Sample requests
Send a route-based quote with origin and destination (or an explicit distance_in_km), then repeat the call with audit set to true once the booking is final. If you don't know the distance, send number_of_days instead.

}audit_for is optional
Pass the ID of an auditable entity when you calculate on behalf of that entity. Otherwise, leave it out.
Distance precedence
distance_in_km takes priority over both origin/destination and number_of_days. The order is distance_in_km > origin/destination > number_of_days.
Defaults
When a field is missing, SQUAKE fills it in before calculating.
| Field | Default | Applies when |
|---|---|---|
fuel_type | petrol | No fuel_type is sent |
acriss_car_type | E | No acriss_car_type is sent |
How it's calculated
Distance from trip duration
When the trip distance is unknown, SQUAKE estimates it from number_of_days.
number_of_days Γ 60If you send neither distance_in_km nor origin and destination, SQUAKE uses number_of_days (if provided) to estimate the distance. Otherwise, the request may not contain enough to calculate trip emissions.
Send the real distance when you can
The actual distance_in_km gives the most accurate result. number_of_days is a convenience fallback and a coarse approximation.
Request fields
typestringrequiredcar
methodologystringrequiredACRISS
originstringSQUAKE tries to resolve origin and destination in any format. Prefer postal-standard addresses, IATA/ICAO airport codes (MUC), UN/LOCODE for trade and transport locations (DEHAM), or latitude and longitude (+40.712,-74.006).
destinationstringSame formats and rules as origin.
distance_in_kmnumberTakes priority over origin/destination and number_of_days. If you send both distance_in_km and origin/destination, SQUAKE uses distance_in_km.
number_of_daysintegerAt least 1. Use it when the trip distance is unknown: SQUAKE estimates the distance as number_of_days * 60. It's the fallback after distance_in_km and origin/destination.
fuel_typeenumOne of petrol, diesel, hev, phev, electricity. Defaults to petrol.
acriss_car_typeenumCar class: C (Compact), D (Compact Elite), E (Economy), F (Fullsize), G (Fullsize Elite), H (Economy Elite), I (Intermediate), J (Intermediate Elite), L (Luxury), M (Mini), N (Mini Elite), P (Premium), R (Standard Elite), S (Standard), U (Premium Elite), W (Luxury Elite), X (Special). Defaults to E.
sipp_car_typestringIf you don't send acriss_car_type, SQUAKE resolves the class from the SIPP code. Mutually exclusive with pseudo_car_type; send only one.
pseudo_car_typeenumIf you send neither acriss_car_type nor sipp_car_type, SQUAKE resolves the class from the pseudo code. Mutually exclusive with sipp_car_type. Allowed values: ACAR, ACGO, ACNV, ACPG, ACPR, ACRS, ADSL, AEIG, AELC, AELT, AETH, AFWD, AGRN, AHYB, AHYD, ALLB, ALLC, ALLD, ALMO, AMAN, AMCY, AMFP, AMNO, AMTO, ANIN, AOFR, APET, APUP, AREC, ASEV, ASIX, ASPC, ASPT, ASUV, ATRV, AUTO, AVAN, AWGN.
external_referencestringYour identifier for the item, up to 128 characters, so you can match results to requests. SQUAKE doesn't guarantee the order of items.
auditbooleanSet to true to create immutable audit records for finalised calculations. Must be enabled for your account.
