Hotel
Calculate hotel stay emissions on the Calculation API with one of the hotel methodologies below. They range from a fixed per-night figure to location- and star-rating-specific benchmarks.
Choose a methodology
| Methodology | Coverage | Basis | Inputs you need | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DEFRA π¬π§ | country defaults to GB; city supports only London | UK government DEFRA Conversion Factors | number_of_nights; optional country, city, methodology_version | Pin a factor year with methodology_version |
| GreenView HFT | About 200 countries, 100 sub-national regions and 450 market areas | GreenView Hotel Footprinting Tool, adapted from CHSB; years 2021 to 2026 | number_of_nights, plus country, state or city; optional stars, methodology_version | Falls back from city to state, country and continent, and from stars to the hotel average |
| HCMI & CHSB | Not stated | HCMI and Cornell Hotel Sustainability Benchmarking Index datasets; years 2015 to 2026 | number_of_nights or square_meters; optional country, state, city, stars or hotel_type, hcmi_member, account_for_total, methodology_version | Per occupied room or by floor area; rooms-only or whole-property footprint |
| NOS-GESTES-CLIMAT | Not stated | Nos Gestes Climat fixed footprint, 6.94 kg COβe per night | number_of_nights | No location, hotel class or version inputs |
Every methodology above supports audit mode.
How to decide
- You know the hotel's location and star rating: GreenView and HCMI & CHSB both use location and
stars. GreenView falls back step by step when it has no data for the exact city or star rating. - You calculate by floor area: HCMI & CHSB accepts
square_metersinstead ofnumber_of_nights. - You only know the number of nights: NOS-GESTES-CLIMAT multiplies a fixed per-night figure by
number_of_nightsand needs nothing else. - You need to reproduce a published dataset year: DEFRA, GreenView and HCMI & CHSB all take a
methodology_version.
