Flight: TU-Chalmers πΈπͺ
Calculate passenger flight emissions with the TU-Chalmers methodology from Chalmers University of Technology, which accounts for booking class, scheduled or charter flights and the use of biofuels.
The TU-Chalmers methodology comes from research at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden and focuses on improving the precision of greenhouse gas (GHG) calculations for air travel. It considers class-specific emissions, reflecting differences in space usage and the associated fuel allocation, and supports assessments of flights that use biofuels.
Sample requests
Send a quote while the traveller is still choosing a flight, then repeat the call with audit set to true once the booking is final. The body is otherwise identical.

Pass the ID of an auditable entity when you calculate on behalf of that entity. Otherwise, leave it out.
Defaults
When a field is missing, SQUAKE fills it in before calculating.
| Field | Default | Applies when |
|---|---|---|
plane_type | scheduled | No plane_type is sent |
biofuel | false | No biofuel is sent |
Request fields
typestringrequiredflight
methodologystringrequiredTU-CHALMERS
originstringIATA/ICAO airport code (MUC), UN/LOCODE for other locations (DEHAM), or latitude and longitude (+40.712,-74.006). For multi-leg trips, use routing instead.
destinationstringSame formats as origin.
routingstringHyphen-separated airports for multi-leg itineraries, instead of origin and destination. See Flight: Routing (multi-leg).
distance_in_kmnumberOverrides origin and destination. Without it, SQUAKE resolves the distance from them. With routing, it isn't used as the routed total.
booking_classenumeconomy, premium_economy, business or first. Affects emissions through the space and resources allocated per passenger.
plane_typeenum"scheduled" or "charter". Defaults to "scheduled".
biofuelbooleanWhether the flight used biofuel. Defaults to false.
number_of_travelersintegerMinimum 1. Defaults to 1.
external_referencestringYour identifier for the item, up to 128 characters, so you can link results to requests when you send several items.
auditbooleanSet to true to create immutable audit records for finalised calculations. Must be enabled for your account.
