Flight: EPA πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Calculate passenger flight emissions with the US EPA GHG Emission Factors Hub, pinned to a Hub year or using the latest supported one.

type flightmethodology US-EPASupports audit mode

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) methodology for passenger flights covers direct emissions and takes into account elements such as plane type, flight distance, fuel efficiency and load factors.

Versioning

Include methodology_version to pin a specific Hub year (for example "2024"). If you leave it out, SQUAKE uses the latest supported year.

Sample requests

Send a quote while the traveller is still choosing a flight, then repeat the call with audit set to true once the booking is final. The body is otherwise identical.

audit_for is optional

Pass the ID of an auditable entity when you calculate on behalf of that entity. Otherwise, leave it out.

flight

methodologystringrequired

US-EPA

methodology_versionstring

EPA Hub year, for example "2024". Optional. If you leave it out, SQUAKE uses the latest supported year.

originstring

IATA/ICAO airport code (MUC), UN/LOCODE for other locations (DEHAM), or latitude and longitude (+40.712,-74.006). For multi-leg trips, use routing instead.

destinationstring

Same formats as origin.

routingstring

Hyphen-separated airports for multi-leg itineraries, instead of origin and destination. See Flight: Routing (multi-leg).

distance_in_kmnumber

Overrides the distance resolved from origin and destination. With routing, it isn't used as the routed total.

number_of_travelersinteger

Minimum 1. Defaults to 1.

external_referencestring

Your identifier for matching requests to responses, up to 128 characters.

sustainable_fuelsboolean

Marks the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This lowers the emissions SQUAKE calculates, but isn't part of the EPA factors.

carbon_reduction_percentage_of_totalnumber

Share of emissions reduced when sustainable_fuels is used, from 0 to 1. Defaults to 0.

auditboolean

Set to true to create immutable audit records for finalised calculations. Must be enabled for your account.

Mode-level factors

EPA provides mode-level factors. Aircraft-specific parameters (type, booking class, RFI) aren't part of the EPA Hub factors.

Versions

If methodology_version is left out, SQUAKE applies the latest supported EPA Hub year. Pin a year for reproducibility and auditability.
