Van: EEA πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί

Calculate van journey emissions with the European Environment Agency (EEA) methodology, based on the van's manufacturer, model, fuel type and engine size.

type vanmethodology EU-EEAEEA, Jun 2021Supports audit mode

About the methodology

The European Environment Agency (EEA) guides European nations toward sustainable futures. For vans, the EEA's methodology focuses on emissions from vehicle operation, taking into account fuel type, engine efficiency and the age of the vehicle. It covers both direct emissions from combustion and indirect emissions from producing and distributing fuel.

The methodology gives member states a consistent approach when they report their emissions against European Union climate objectives. As a standardised metric system, it offers a harmonised view of the van sector's carbon footprint and supports informed decisions on policy adjustments and green transition strategies.

Sample requests

Send a quote before the trip is booked, then repeat the call with audit set to true once the booking is final. The body is otherwise identical.

audit_for is optional

Pass the ID of an auditable entity when you calculate on behalf of that entity. Otherwise, leave it out.

Request fields

The accepted values for manufacturer, model, fuel_type and engine_size_in_cubic_cm are listed in the van database.

originstring

SQUAKE tries to resolve the location whatever its format. Ideally, use the Post standard for addresses, an IATA/ICAO code for airports (format ^[A-Z]{3,4}$, for example "MUC"), and a UN/LOCODE for other locations used in trade and transportation (format ^[A-Z]{2}\W?[A-Z2-9]{3}$, for example "DEHAM"). You can also pass latitude and longitude (format ^[-+]?\d{1,3}\.\d{1,10}\s?,\s?[-+]?\d{1,3}\.\d{1,10}$, for example "+40.712,-74.006").

destinationstring

Same formats as origin.

distance_in_kmnumber

Takes priority over origin and destination. Without it, SQUAKE resolves the distance from them. If you send both, SQUAKE uses distance_in_km.

manufacturerstring

Van manufacturer, as listed in the van database.

modelstring

Van model, as listed in the van database.

fuel_typestring

Fuel type, as listed in the van database.

engine_size_in_cubic_cmnumber

Engine size in cubic centimetres, as listed in the van database.

external_referencestring

Your identifier for the item, up to 128 characters, so you can match results to requests. SQUAKE doesn't guarantee the order of items.

auditboolean

Set to true to create immutable audit records for finalised calculations. Must be enabled for your account.
